Guest Blog Grand Tour | Life Without Pants

If you know me by now – you know that “projects” are my middle name – whether I’m compiling an ebook, recording a podcast, your reviewing blogs – I’m always up to something new, and usually these ideas come on a whim – they might start with a question or small idea, and then snowball into something much, much bigger.

Oops, I did it again.

Following in the illustrious footsteps of the strongest librarian I know, and new-found amigo, I’ve decided to take Life Without Pants on the road. Over the next two months, I’ll be embarking on a Guest Blog Grand Tour – and I want YOU to be a part of it.

What it is:

The “tour” will consist of…well…however many guest posts I can get myself signed up for. As of now, the tour has over 30 stops. Blogs from all over the spectrum, big and small, will be getting a dose of yours truly. You get a slice of brilliance, I get a two line bio, a link back to my blog, and some new friends.

Why I’m doing it:

The challenge. Honestly. I’ve established a niche here at Life Without Pants – and I love it. LOVE IT. The community I’ve invested so much time has grown exponentially in only 9 months, and will continue to grow by leaps and bounds. But while nurturing your own community is critical, expanding out and meeting new people may just be the most important thing of all.

This also give me the opportunity to write about things I normally wouldn’t. Religion, relationships, cooking, reality TV, business ethics, personal finance – you name it. Topics I may have yet to tackle here, but still have plenty to talk about.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good challenge.

Where you come in:

I’ve already organized 30 stops on the tour – but it doesn’t have to stop there! If you’re reading this, and you don’t see your blog on the list below, let’s do something about it. Leave a comment below or send me an email and let’s talk about what I can bring to your neighborhood.

It’s highly unlikely I’ll say no unless I literally know NOTHING about the topic – to all you underwater basket weavers out there – you’re out. Everything else is fair game.

It’s going to be a hell of a marathon – I’m excited about the opportunity to connect with so many new people – but only slightly terrified of the burnout that will undoubtedly ensue. Eye of the tiger. Eye of the tiger…

The Life Without Pants Guest Blog Grand Tour!

For a recap, additional “tour dates”, and links to the posts I write – head over to the “Grand Tour” page.

    • Jenny! I kid you not it was on my to-do list (hand written mind you) to get in touch with you about adding you to the roster. I need an outlet to write about my not-so-secret obsession with Lady Gaga. Can we just roll with that, or did you have another topic in mind? :)

  9. Hi Matt-
I’d so love to have your energy visit over here at http://AuthenticOrganizations.com !
We usually keep our pants on here, since it’s a conversation about being authentic within the collective/organization and it’s kind of business oriented, but we’ll be happy to go sans culottes for your visit so that you feel at home.

  11. If you have something good to say about social change, non-profits, social enterprise, etc please stop by at my blog too :-) It sounds like you’re highly booked, so let me know! You can be a “belated” part of the Be the Change series!

    • I can definitely talk about change – think about who you’re talkin’ too here. I’ll work something up and get it to you – I owe you for slacking on the “Be the Change” series.

  13. Do you think you can handle phampants?

    Reply
    • That depends – can you tell me what the heck the “phamplets” is and what I should write for them?

      Reply
      • phampants is nothing and everything. it’s basically my life in anecdotes. but the thing is that i am a cross platformer. i blog, i vlog, i tweet, i create videos.

one project i’m doing is a visual blog project. instead of just blogging or vlogging, i would do a visual blog. so i would act out what i think the reader should “see” in a blog/vlog. Here’s an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC5_bFsshLE

        • Hey buddy – can I just say I LOVE what you are doing with these videos? I really really enjoyed it – great stuff.

My video editing skills are not up to par with you – but I’ll see what I can put together. This is probably the most unique challenge yet. Looking forward to it!

  15. Hey Matt: I think you definitely need to stop in NW Ohio & SE Michigan with a post at my blog: MikesPoints.com. I focus on PR, social media, journalism – -but you’d have free reign. Feel free even to pimp SMB-Chicago.

Great idea — even if the tour doesn’t stop on Mikespoints.com. :)

    • Be happy to Mike. All I ask is that you give me a LITTLE more guidance than “PR, Social Media, & journalism” – in a nutshell – that’s TOO broad for me to wrap my head around. Anything in particular you have in mind? I’m all ears.

      • Matt,
Don’t have anything particular in mind. What about your thoughts on social media in Chicago & the metro area? In Toledo, there’s a lot of interest. Some of the bigger companies are doing bits and pieces, but none (or next to none) have really embraced it.

The same goes for agencies — some of the more established ones are doing some but none (or next to none) are really leading the pack. There’s a lot of interest by small business and solo practitioners. There’s a lot of solo communications folks who are touting themselves (with many not having the background to back it up). And, yes, I’d include myself in the growing pack of those who are promoting themselves as knowing something about social media.

So, what’s the social media scene like in Chicago for interest by businesses & agencies, tweetups and Social Media Breakfast, along with any other activity?

        Just a suggestion.

(Actually don’t be too rushed to reply to my email.. I’m going to be MIA for the next two weeks, so I won’t be able to discuss anything substantially until after December 4th. Either way, I’ll drop you a line.)

  31. This is an absolutely outrageous challenge you’ve set yourself Matt!

I’m a location independent graphic designer (currently in Melbourne) and write about creativity and design at http://www.brightsparkcreative.com/blog

Just in case you haven’t already taken on enough, it would be great if you found the time to guest post.

Alternatively, you may be more inspired by my blog ( http://www.aboutagadabout.com )which is about my girlfriend and I working and gadding about anywhere that has an internet connection. That’s what it’s supposed to be about anyway although my latest post is about bashing my head in. People have a right to know.

  39. I’d be very interested to read about the steps you would take if you needed a designer for one of your projects. How would you go about finding the right person, what exactly would you look for and ultimately what do you think would tip the balance in favour of one designer over another.

It could possibly take the form of a checkpoint list (if you feel comfortable approaching it that way) for designers, written from the perspective of a potential client.

This would fit best at http://www.brightsparkcreative.com/blog

    Thanks Matt…
