I don’t mind you asking! I’m finishing up my master’s degree. Working on a business plan. Seeking out part-time work that will allow me to fully do these two things.

I’m learning how to prioritize (never really been skilled in that area…”Everything is awesome! Everything is important! I’m gonna take on 1,345 things today – woohoo!”). Taking time to incubate my ideas, knowing some ideas will make it to the streets while other ideas won’t leave my skull.

The reward is always that much greater when you know you’ve put significant time and effort toward achieving it. If you can’t force yourself to look at things in a new light any other time of year, at least let January 1 be that jump off point to new attitudes, new ideas, and bigger and better things. I don’t think we disagree at all Scott – and I don’t think at all that this is as easy as just cutting your losses and moving on when you don’t like something. Instead, I think that every situation, as bad as it may seem, can be approached with a positive attitude as a STEP in the right direction toward your “dream” job – that’s why I used the “working at Best Buy while pursuing your dream as a musician” example. Because all of us should see our dreams as a work in progress – not a finite destination that we have to arrive at TODAY. Love the quote – and thanks for stopping by sir!

Great post Matt! It is really true that Jan. 1 needs to be a jumping off point – AND that it is ultimately about attitude. I think that has affected me a lot in the last year – learning from, and changing my attitude according to life around me. It’s hard, but in the end, its worth it.

Matt, great post and I love your values that I deciphered throughout the blog. I completely agree with keeping a smile and positive attitude on life, and I think this is a great trait that will bring out the best in ourselves and others. The only thing that I don’t completely agree with is the thought that if you wake up and don’t like what you are doing, don’t just quit but do find a different attitude like he said. In this economy, jobs are not as readily available, and the dream jobs we all want are going to take a little more time to fall into. Don’t burn any bridges through you path in life, because you never know when you may need to cross them again. Head in the clouds, feet on the ground – that’s the best way to live right? Kudos to you for quitting what was “safe” in pursuit of something more fulfilling – I recently did the exact same thing. If you don’t mind me asking, what are you up to now that you’re away from the grind?
