I didn't mention I'm a mind reader? Thanks for the comment Adriana - glad this was useful for you. Above all, an about page needs to give your readers a look at who you really are, but more importantly, why they should care about you. Give people a reason to WANT to connect with you, read your blog, and listen to what you have to say. I don't know if I do that, or if it's just my good looks. :)

Matt, I feel like you are seriously reading my mind every week! A couple weeks ago I was thinking about ways to be more productive and then you posted your 5 Productivity Tips. This week I have been researching about pages and here you are again to save the day! I'm working on launching my first blog tomorrow eeek :) I have found that my favorite about pages have profile pictures and are informal. Being a bit informal gives the reader a window to the writers personality that they wouldn't get if they were just dry and professional. Thanks again for saving the day super Matt!

Exactly right David. The purpose of my "about" video is to 1) Let people physically see who I am and who's responsible for all the nonsense here at Life Without Pants and 2) to provide a quick "tour" to newcomers. What's the first thing I do when I come to a blog? I look at the home page and then usually make my way over to the "About" page - it's just a part of my natural reader progression. Looking at what I do plus what Analytics is showing my readers do, I felt like I needed to have something compelling on that page"

I've been meaning to do a video intro for some time now. I keep putting it off. Actually haven't really touched my about page since I created my blog. Thanks for the reminder and the solid tips.

The call to action is important the same way it is for any website. The purpose of your about page isn't just to provide an intro, but also to lead visitors deeper into your site. Give them somewhere to go.

Thanks.
