Each day in August I’m saying “thank you” to one person/place/thing that’s helped define who I am and where I am today. I’m encouraging each of you to participate on your own blog. and if you’re the hashtag type, we’re using #31ty on Twitter.
Dear Delicious Cup of Coffee,
They say it’s the little things in life that make a big difference. I can personally attest that, because of you, this is true.
I used to hate coffee. But around age 16 I started dabbling in Starbucks Frappuccinos. Okay, okay I know that’s basically a chocolate/caramel/vanilla smoothie with (very) little coffee sprinkled in, but you have to start somewhere.
And, as Will Ferrell once said, “once it touched my lips, it was so good”. There’s been no turning back. It’s become an integral part of my everyday life.
Sure, having an addiction to a dark roast or morning blend may not the best thing for me, but there are worse vices. And besides, who wants tea anyways?
You, Gingerbread Latte from Starbucks, were there for me when I lost my job and decided I wanted to start my own business. And every winter, I eagerly anticipate your long-awaited return to the menu.
You, Iced Coffee from Frothy Monkey, are there for me every other morning after a jog, to provide me with the energy I need for the day.
You, Irish Cream Latte from Bongo Java, are the sweetest of sweet nectar’s, with just enough (but not too much) sweetness.
You, Hot Buttered Americano from DrinkHaus, have taught me that butter and coffee is completely normal, albeit heart-attack inducing.
And in a month in which I’m saying “thank you” to the most important things in my life, it seems only natural to express my gratitude for you, cup of coffee. You’re always there when I need a pick me up, when I need to escape for a place to meet with friends, or when I’m signing a contract with a big client.
You’re the perfect ice-breaker. The perfect conversation starter. And without you, well, how else would I throw away $5.00 each day?
So thank you, coffee. Here’s to many, many more beautiful cups together!
You’re committed sipper,
Matt
